ART BEATS SERIES – Caravaggio – The Soul and the Blood

After groundbreaking success in terms of audiences and critics of “The Vatican Museums” and “Florence and the Uffizi Gallery”, and after the release of “Raphael – The Lord of the Arts”, here it comes a new documentary dedicated to an Italian Master: Caravaggio – Soul and blood.

A journey through life, works and struggles of Michelangelo Merisi from Caravaggio. His existence, no less than his art, is characterized by lights and shadows, contrasts and contradictions, genius and sobriety. Revolutionary artist, he was often not so beloved by contemporaries. He travelled Italy in search of luck or perhaps in search of himself, escaping the enemies that he always found at his passage. Milan, Venice, Rome, Naples, Malta, Sicily. His death seems a twist of faith: he died in Porto Ercole, one step away from Rome, one step away from salvation.

According to the Longhi’s lesson (the main Caravaggio expert), his work will be read with strict reference to his existence, finding in his masterpieces the echo of personal experiences.

The narrative unfolds on two levels:

The artistic digression, in which the commentary of the main artworks will be entrusted to an illustrious art historian from the first painting: Bacchus and Boy with a Basket of Fruit. Through the roman period artworks: Cardsharps, Judith Beheading Holofernes to the last works as David with the Head of Goliath.

“Photographic” scenes that, accompanied by the voice of Caravaggio himself, evokes an object or a situation symbolizing his life and his works. A basket of fruit, a musical instrument, a sword, a grate of a cell etc. These emotional and evocative moments – thanks to the use of light and cinematic techniques such timelapse and slowmotion – help the viewer to go deep inside the mind and soul of Caravaggio, empathizing with his impulses and fears.

Available from April 2018, Pannonia Entertainment distributes this unique art documentary to cinemas across Hungary, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania.

ART BEATS SERIES – Van Gogh Of Wheat Fields And Clouded Skies

A new look at Van Gogh, through the legacy of the largest private collector of artworks by the Dutch painter: Helene Kröller-Müller (1869-1939), who, in the early 20th Century, ended up buying nearly 300 of his works, paintings and drawings included.

The story unfolds of a woman who, in Van Gogh’s spiritual torment could recognize her own, showing priceless artistic treasures and the rare, naturalistic and architectural beauty of the Kröller-Müller Museum set in the vast De Hoge Weluge park, as well as visual extracts of the Milanese, Florentine, Roman and Palladian Renaissance. It tells the tormented, existential parable of a painter, seen through passages from his brother Theo’s letters, which set the pace of the exhibition, and it shows images of the places he lived and stayed in, from Paris to Provence.

The opportunity to tell the story of this collection and of the burning passion for art that led to it, is an outstanding exhibition on Van Gogh. ‘Amid wheat fields and clouded skies’ at the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza, brings together 40 paintings and 85 drawings from the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, Holland, now home to Helene’s heritage.

This is an exhibition that will not only tell us about Van Gogh’s art and his genius, but it will also allow us to understand the importance of drawing as part of his artistic technique. His seemingly instinctive, ‘au premier coup’ canvases were the result of long, preparatory studies, not sketches but complete works of art in themselves, where the broken flow of lines that characterizes the style of his paintings, can already be found.

Available from the 1st of September 2018 till the 31st of December 2019, Pannonia Entertainment distributes this unique art documentary to cinemas across Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria.

ART BEATS SERIES – Hitler versus Picasso and the others – The nazi obsession for art

There are two ways Nazism put its hands on art: attempting to destroy every trace of the so-called “Degenerate Art” and implementing a systematic looting of classic and modern artworks.

In 1937 the Nazi regime held two exhibitions in Munich: one to stigmatize the “Degenerate Art” and one, personally curated by Hitler, to glorify the “Classic Art”.

This film is an amazing journey through 5 exhibitions displaying an incredible number of masterpieces by Botticelli, Klee, Matisse, Monet, Chagall, Renoir, Gauguin, just to name a few. Linked to each exhibition there are several impressive human and artistic narratives.

Available on DCP from March 2018, Pannonia Entertainment distributes these art documentary movie to cinemas across Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria.

Gemenc – The Wild Danube

nature documentary, Hungary, 2017 (6)
directed by Frigyes Olma

Running time: 60 Min

The landscape of Gemenc, the largest floodplain woods of Central Europe, is living and developing together with its waters. The river Danube defines the life of the drainage area’s flora and fauna, either by protecting or threatening, building or vanishing the scenery. The forest and the river provide an outstanding habitat for their residents, families of deers, boars, eagles, jackals, beavers, cranes and kingfishers of the Gemenc floodplain woods, including one of the area’s greatest population of the protected black storks. This stunning nature documentary – released with the support of WWF Hungary –  gives us insight into their lives. The film is a result of five years’ stringent and tenacious work: special disguised wildlife monitoring cameras, underwater or drone cameras were used to capture the wildlife of the drainage area including precious and previously unseen images of black storks nesting and raising up their squealers, or dramatic recordings of the big flood of the Danube in 2013. Besides the area’s wildlife, the documentary puts great emphasis on the presentation of the floodplain woods’ unique atmosphere as well, by capturing dawning landscapes and by numerous mid-air shots made with drones, while playing the evergreen melodies of Strauss, Vivaldi, Verdi, Puccini, Mahler and Bartók in the background.
