“Sign O The Times” The Grammy nominated Album of the Year in 1987 represented the pinnacle of Prince’s career, with its blend of songs and music styles. An extraordinary journey into his musical universe which expanded into diverse musical genres, from rock to soul, funk to spiritual ballads or from pop to electro while his lyrics are a compendium of all the main themes and subjects of his poetic artistry intertwined with the story of a decade, the Eighties, which is the backdrop to the entire narrative.

On its original (cinematic and VHS) release this film was more or less declared to be one the “Greatest Concert Film” ever made. Prince and his 1987 entourage whiz, slide, jump and bounce around the stage during the collection of 14 classic songs. Having recently ditched his Revolution band the year before, fans are treated with an introduction to new sidekicks and cohorts, with Shelia E now on drums, Boni Boyer on keyboards and supporting vocals and the frenetic Cat (Glover) providing enough bump and grind for everyone. “Sign o’ the times” , a concert that has already made music history, returns to cinemas after 30 years – digitally restored and remastered into Dolby Digital 5.1 – to show how immortal and revolutionary Prince’s genius is.

In 1987 Prince released his ninth studio album “Sign o’ the times” , his most acclaimed record, nominated to the Album of the Year Grammy Award and since being ranked as one of the greatest albums ever by several publications. An album which, in terms of song writing and performance, gives the greatest example of the breadth of his artistry. It is an extraordinary journey into his musical universe which expanded into diverse musical genres, from rock to soul, funk to spiritual ballads, while his lyrics are a compendium of all the main themes and subjects of his poetic artistry – sexuality, spirituality, love, jealousy, regret, fear, hope – intertwined with the story of a decade, the Eighties, which is the backdrop to the entire narrative.

In the same year Prince turned “Sign o’ the times” into a concert-film directing it, which eloquently focused on the vital energy, the impact made by his music and his charisma as an entertainer: backed by a brand new band able to master any situation (like the dancer Cat Glover, keyboard player Boni Boyer, bass player Levi Seacer Jr., guitarist Miko Weaver, drummer Sheila E. And keyboard player Dr. Fink, formerly with the Revolution),

Prince offered the best of the double album interspersed with jam sessions and tributes (like the one to great jazz musician Charlie Parker, perfomed by the band exckluding Prince) emanating a 360-degree love for music and performance. The film “Sign o’ the times” established him, and consecrated him with audiences, as one of the greatest musicians and composers of all time, winning the respect of music legends such as Miles Davis.

Now, 30 years after its original theatrical release in the US, “Sign o’ the times” and its 84 explosive minutes of vital energy returns to cinemas worldwide, digitally restored in stunning image quality and remastered, clear sound remixed in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround format. This is a unique opportunity to celebrate the talent of Prince and, for the very first time, offer audiences scattered all over the world the chance to hold a reunion in December 2017 only, to remember him and enjoy his music and his extraordinary artistry once more.
